Fire departments in Elbert County are responding to a brush fire that started late Monday morning and is reported to have grown to 300 acres by 1 p.m.
The fire, called the Bradberry Fire, began northeast of Kiowa and spread rapidly to the south.
A 309-acre grass fire in Elbert County was 100 percent contained as of 4:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Elizabeth Fire Department.
Fire departments in Elbert and Arapahoe counties responded to the fire, called the Bradberry Fire at 10:25 a.m. It began northeast of Kiowa in the Chaparral Valley area and spread rapidly south, threatening one structure before it was contained.
Pre-evacuation orders were issued for one subdivision of homes but were cancelled at about 2 p.m.
