It was standing room only in the council chambers as Parker’s new mayor and town council members were sworn in.
The Town of Parker ushered in a new era Dec. 17. Mike Waid ceremoniously replaced eight-year mayor David Casiano, and John Diak, Joshua Rivero and Debbie Lewis joined Parker Town Council, the municipality’s governing board.
Casiano deliver a parting speech in which he credited an immense support system of family, friends and colleagues for his accomplishments. Council members Gary Lasater and Lisa Coe also talked briefly about their tenures, and were sent off with a standing ovation from the capacity crowd.
Diak, Rivero and Lewis, the latter of whom has served on council in the past, said they were eager to learn about the latest projects and initiatives and get to work. Rivero, Lewis and Waid brought family members front and center as they took the oath of office from Judge Kevin Sidel.
Waid shared a laugh with the audience as he showed off his council chambers nameplate, which had his last name spelled as “Wade.” The new mayor later thanked his wife, Pam, who was brought to tears when Waid singled her out as the key to his success and happiness.
