State Rep. Patrick Neville's thinly veiled attempt to raise money for his PAC by spewing a hate-filled tirade that capitalized on the June 14 "baseball shooting" in Virginia not only was wrong, but also reflected precisely the type of rhetoric that has polarized our country.

While saner and brighter politicians called for unity and an end to divisiveness, Neville saw a self-serving opportunity - and dollar signs. His actions, which drew a great deal of negative national attention to him, Castle Rock and Colorado, would seem to contradict the description on his website as "not someone who speaks up only when it becomes politically convenient."

Really? As a life-long Republican, I ask: Is this the type of person we want to represent us, both within and beyond our state borders?
