Woman faces charge in cyclist’s death

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of a cyclist killed Nov. 27 on Hess Road near Parker as 53-year-old John Kirby.

According to the sheriff’s office, he was hit by a distracted driver. The suspect has been identified as Beth Young, 54.

“John was traveling eastbound on Hess road at Double Angel Road and was in the bike lane when the distracted driver veered into the bike lane, striking and killing him,” a sheriff’s office news release stated.

Young was arrested and taken to the Douglas County jai. She posted $500 bond on a charge of careless driving causing death.
