Area youth golfers shine at Texas tournament

Eight teams of golfers aged 13 and younger, including one from Parker, qualified for the National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Regional tournament in Garland, Texas, the weekend of Sept. 10 and 11.

The Parker team included Bryce Borden, Crew Fitzgerald, Scout Fizgerald and Taylor Ramos, all from Parker, plus Kai Jorde from Castle Rock. The other team members were Brayden DeStefano from Peyton and Chance and Colton Witczak of Aurora. The squad combined to record a score of 9-under par in the stroke-play qualifying round, good for sixth place.

A squad from Dallas won the tournament and advanced to the national championship next month.

Six other golfers from Parker -- Benjamin Sander, Bryar Moss, Jake Dost, Will Valkner and Zane Aiken -- also qjualified for the 17U regional tournament in Garland. They combined to shoot 9-under par and finish sixth.

In addition, two other golfers from Parker (Aron McWhorter and Cody Cotterman), who played on the MKG18 @ SV 17u team in Elizabeth, finished stroke play with a score of 10-under par, good for fifth place.

A team from Austin, Texas, won the tournament and moved to the national championship tournament in October.
