After a big turnout last year, the Ace for the Cure fundraiser
is open to the public. In the past, the event was open to Pinery
Country Club members only, but to Elaine Tyson’s delight, she is
happy to have the community involved.
Ace for the Cure is a fundraiser benefiting the Susan G. Komen
Denver Race for the Cure. As a cancer survivor herself, Tyson,
event coordinator, wanted to help others battling cancer. Last year
the event raised $1,800, and this year Tyson hopes to raise at
least $2,000.
“It's great to get the entire community involved,” Tyson said.
“Even though I am cancer free, there is always someone else who has
it, so it’s important to keep raising money and awareness.”
This year Ace for the Cure is Oct. 10 and includes a one-hour
drill with the tennis pro from the Pinery followed by a silent
auction. Registration begins at 1:30 p.m., with the drill beginning
at 2 p.m. The silent auction will start at 3 p.m. Both the drill
and the silent auction are in the tennis dome at the country club
at 6900 N. Pinery Parkway.
The entry fee is $25 and includes the tennis drill and three
raffle tickets for the silent auction. Additional raffle tickets
are $1 each or $5 for six tickets. Those who don’t want to
participate in the tennis drill don’t have to.
