H2O'Brien Pool makes way for Barker Days

The annual dogs-only swim marked the end of the season

Owen Whisker's 1-year-old German Shepherd Ash was a little skittish of the water at first. Trying to find ways to retrieve tennis balls from the edge of the H2O'Brien Pool Sept. 7, Ash found himself gracelessly falling head-first into the pool.

The Whiskers have visited Barker Days almost every year for the past 14 years.

Whisker did his best to teach Ash that the best way is to jump. But he said the main thing was to, "make sure he likes it before he gets in,” Whisker said.

At the 2019 Barker Days event at the H2O'Brien Pool, hundreds of dogs of all shapes and sizes scoured the pool to get a late summer swim in before the pool is drained for the year. The tradition happens every year on the last day the pool is open, closing the swim season with a splash.
