A new locally owned independent bookstore will celebrate its grand opening with an open house celebration from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8.

Books Are Awesome! is owned by Wendy Withers and Danean Wisely, longtime Parker residents. It is located south of Mainstreet, at the corner of Dransfeldt and 20-Mile Road in the Target shopping center.

At the open house, four local authors will speak about their books and sign copies — Jim Cronin at 1 p.m., Becky Clark at 2 p.m., Lisa Reinicke at 3 p.m., and Jack McDaniel at 5 p.m.

Hangry Ohana, a Parker Hawaiian food truck, will offer lunch, and cakes and cupcakes will be provided by Posh Cakes of Parker.

Kids can write and illustrate their own stories at a book-making table from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and other activities include reading trivia and other contests. Adults can participate in literary trivia games and win prizes for their knowledge of classic books and authors.

Open seven days a week, Books Are Awesome! is working to enhance the community by sponsoring the Parker Arts Family Discover Series for 2020 and featuring local authors in the store. It also will serve treats such as Bobo's bars made in Boulder.

The store also will host book clubs, book readings, and author signing events. Books Are Awesome! will have an inventory of more than 9,000 books, and customers can request special orders for titles not on hand.

Books Are Awesome! will also sell quality craft kits for knitting and crochet enthusiasts, developed by Lambspun of Fort Collins. Every Saturday, the store will host a Sit and Stich a Bit table, where customers can work on craft projects.
