"Itzhak," the documentary movie, is a look at the life, work, and religious heritage of word renown violinist, Itzhak Perlman. From Schubert to Strauss, Bach to Brahms, Mozart to Billy Joel, Itzhak Perlman's violin playing transcends mere performance to evoke the celebrations and struggles of real life; "praying with the violin," says famous Tel Aviv violin maker Amnon Weinstein. Alison Chernick's enchanting documentary looks beyond the sublime musician to see the polio survivor whose parents emigrated from Poland to Israel, the young man who struggled to be taken seriously as a music student when schools saw only his disability. As charming and entrancing as the famous violinist himself, the movie I"tzhak" is a portrait of musical virtuosity seamlessly enclosed in warmth, humor, and above all, love. "Itzahak" is presented as part of the 11th Annual Neustadt JAAMM Festival at the Mizel Arts and Culture Center at 350 S. Dahlia Street in Denver. This arts and culture festival runs from October 4th through November 18th, 2018. For more information about the festival please visit: https://www.jccdenver.org/arts-culture/jaamm/.
