Local students return to school

School is back in session for Douglas County students, and that means welcoming a new class of freshmen at area high schools. Aug. 7 was the freshman orientation for Ponderosa High School students. The school welcomed 363 freshmen this year.

The new students got to know each other during the orientation assembly. For an icebreaker exercise, two groups of freshmen competed in a team balloon-popping contest in which teammates linked arms and squeezed the balloon between their backs.

Dawson Hadwiger teamed up with senior leader Jenna Wallace. The three-sport athlete said he's excited to start high school, where the kids are more mature.

“I'm excited for meeting new friends and new people and being a leader,” Hadwiger said.
