Mountain Vista’s girls volleyball team took a big step toward winning the Continental League regular season title with a win on March 30 in a showdown between the state’s two top-ranked Class 5A team.
The Golden Eagles’ victory highlighted the action for south Metro teams between March 29 and April 3.
Girls Volleyball
Mountain Vista 2, Chaparral 0 – Kelli Ell had 10 spikes, three aces and six digs to help Vista, ranked second in the CHSAANow.com poll, to an easy March 30 win over the top-ranked Wolverines.
Vista lost the first set on April 2 against Highlands Ranch but rebounded for a 2-1 triumph.
Valor Christian 3, Arvada West 0 – Grace Langer had 10 kills and a 55.6 kills percentage in a win for the eighth-ranked Eagles on March 30. Valor defeated Dakota Ridge, 3-0, on April 1.
Cherry Creek 3, Eaglecrest 0 – Carter Booth had 12 kills and a 60 percent kills percentage for the fourth-ranked Bruins in a win on March 30. Anna Van Wyk finished with 27 assists in the victory.
Lutheran 3, Prospect Ridge Academy 1 – Junior Audrey Broch was credited with 16 kills and five service aces as the Lions, ranked second in Class 3A, earned a win on April 1. Bella Vezzani had 22 digs and Lexi Wilmoth 26 assists for Lutheran.
Ponderosa 2, Rock Canyon 1 – The Mustangs took the decisive third set, 26-24, to notch a win on March 30.
Boys Soccer
Arapahoe 1, Eaglecrest 1 – Sam Myers scored the goal for the Warriors, third ranked in the 5A soccer poll, in a tie on March 30 with Eaglecrest. Blake D’Agostino and Jarden Wolf had the goals in a 2-1 victory on April 3 over Smoky Hill.
Cherry Creek 3, Overland 2 – Carter Loui had the winning goal for the Bruins on March 30.
Castle View 2, Mountain Vista 1 – Jack Pucciano and Tiesnan Freiberger scored for the Sabercats in the overtime win on March 31.
Mountain Vista 1, ThunderRidge 0 – Brian Kelley got the game’s lone goal in the Golden Eagles win on April 3. Vista also won, 1-0, on April 1 in a game against Douglas County and Tyler Daugherty had the game-winning tally.
Legend 2, Ponderosa 1 – Andrew Wilson got the game-winning goal in a March 31 triumph over the rival Mustangs.
Rock Canyon 1, Chaparral 0 – Alec Mikolajczak scored for the Jaguars in a victory on April 2.
Lutheran 4, Manual 2 – Logan Chollett had two of the four goals the Lions scored in the second half in a win on March 30.
Valor Christian 4, Prairie View 0 – The Eagles scored all their goals in the second half en route to a win on April 1.
Field Hockey
Cherry Creek 5, Regis Jesuit 2 – The Bruins, second-ranked in the state, notched a victory over No. 4 Regis Jesuit on March 31.
Mountain Vista 1, Fossil Ridge 0 – The eighth-ranked Golden Eagles edged the fifth-ranked Sabercats in a game played on March 31.
