My name is Sydney Kennett, I am 12 years old, live in Parker, and I can fly. Yes, for real. I am a professional, sponsored indoor skydiver (also known as body flight) and train at iFLY in Lone Tree. I also travel to other iFLY tunnels around the U.S.A. for training.
I have been tunnel flying for four years and am the 2019 and 2018 USA National Junior Freestyle Champion. I just competed in my first world championship in Lille, France, where I took home the bronze medal for Team USA in Junior Freestyle — that means I am ranked third best in the world at what I do. Not bad for my first World Competition! I was the youngest competitor there and had the hardest start value of any junior freestylist.
This sport is unique because girls and boys compete against one another in the same category. I also just set a Guinness World Record for the most straddle spins in one minute in the wind tunnel — 66 was the official count. The old record was 30. I love flying and if you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it.
What I do for fun …
I love to indoor skydive, but when I am not training I am a true Colorado kid — dirt bike, downhill ski, mountain bike, hike, camp with my family and play on my trampoline. I have been working on teaching my dog Ernie new tricks. He just learned to roll over!
The best part about spring is …
Getting to go outside and play in the rain. It also means school is winding down. This year I was homeschooled and just finished so I am officially on summer break.
People I look up to
I look up to my mom and dad because they are strong, smart and awesome people. They have supported me so much and helped me make my dreams come true.
When I grow up, I want to be …
The best indoor skydiver in the world and I would also like to coach and teach the next generation of indoor skydivers.
