Season B sports got the green light to start on Jan. 25 and the beginning of their abbreviated schedules were highlighted with a few matchups between highly ranked teams.
The following is a roundup of some of the top games and meets between Jan. 25 and Feb. 6.
Boys basketball
ThunderRidge 66, Fairview 42 - The Grizzlies, ranked second in the CHSAANow.com 5A poll, shot 60% from the field in a victory over the Knights in a game played on Jan. 29.
Senior Nolan Marold had 13 points, nine rebounds and three steals to lead the way for ThunderRidge, which held a 31-15 edge in rebounds. Garrett Arnold finished with 11 assists in the game.
Cherry Creek 79, Smoky Hill 70 - The top-ranked Bruins had four players in double figures, led by senior Myles Purchase with 23 points, in a Feb. 4 victory over No. 7 Smoky Hill that improved Creek's record to 4-0.
Lutheran 59, Faith Christian 50 - The Lions, ranked first in the Class 3A poll, outscored third-ranked Faith Christian 12-3 in overtime to post a victory on Feb. 3.
Lutheran lost an 83-46 non-conference game on Feb. 4 to Regis Jesuit, which was ranked fourth in Class 5A. The Lions got 15 points from Tommy Apodaca in the Faith Christian contest.
Valor Christian 89, Lakewood 58 - Amondo Miller scored 22 points and was one of five players to score in double figures as the ninth-ranked Eagles shot 62% from the field in a Feb. 5 win over the Tigers.
Mountain Vista 69, Douglas County 51 - Vista senior Ty Strawbridge and the Huskies' Jaeton Hackey tied for scoring honors with 17 points each in the win for the No. 5 Golden Eagles on Feb. 4.
Chaparral 55, Highland Ranch 40 - The No. 8 Wolverines stayed unbeaten on Feb. 4 with a win over the Falcons as junior Luke Williams led the way with 17 points.
Rock Canyon 85, Heritage 51 - The hot-shooting Jaguars connected on 67% of their field goal attempts and handed the Eagles their first loss of the season on Feb. 4.
Girls basketball
Valor Christian 67, Lakewood 35 - The Eagles, second in the CHSAANow.com 5A poll and coming off a 65-52 win over third-ranked Highlands Ranch on Jan. 30, routed Lakewood on Feb. 5 as Macey Huard scored 16 points while Kindyll Wetta had 13 assists, five steals and eight rebounds.
Highlands Ranch 72, Legend 25 - The Falcons, who downed No.6 Chaparral 59-35 on Feb. 4, rolled to an easy win over Legend on Feb. 6.
Lutheran 70, St. Mary's Academy 7 - Second-ranked Lutheran, led by sophomore Raelyn Kelly and senior Stephanie Schultz who each scored 17 points, crushed the Wildcats in a Feb. 5 contest.
Arapahoe 61,Cherokee Trail 48 - Fifth-ranked Arapahoe used 19 points from Katy Edwards and 17 from Sam Crispe to notch a Centennial League win on Feb. 4.
Hockey
Valor Christian 7, Doherty 2 - Second-ranked Valor held a 46-7 advantage in shots in a win over No. 10 Doherty on Feb. 3 but the Eagles lost a 3-0 showdown against No. 3 Regis Jesuit on Feb. 5. Ryder Price had two goals and four points in the win over Doherty. Valor came back on Feb. 6 as Evan Pahos scored three goals in a 3-0 triumph over Mountain Vista.
Cherry Creek 8, Chatfield 1 - Riley Hunter-Bahn scored five goals as the Bruins, ranked fourth, cruised to a Feb. 5 victory. Hunter-Bahn scored once in a 6-3 loss to Regis Jesuit on Feb. 6.
Chaparral 8, Lewis-Palmer 2 - Jackson Mundell and Dillon Leonard each collected two goals in the Feb. 5 triumph for the seventh-ranked Wolverines.
Mountain Vista 4, Castle View 3 - Easton Burg scored all four goals for No. 9 Vista in a Feb. 5 victory over the Sabercats.
Heritage 4, Columbine 0 - Asher Goerdt had two goals in the Eagles win on Feb. 6.
Girls Swimming
Heritage 360, ThunderRidge 146 - Anna Shaw and Kate Baker were double winners in the Eagles' dual meet conquest of ThunderRidge on Jan. 30. Shaw won the 50 freestyle (:24.48) and the 100 freestyle event (:52.78) while Baker was first in the 200 IM (2:09.32) and the 100 butterfly (:57.62).
Cherry Creek 233, Grandview 123 - Elizabeth Brock was first in the 100 backstroke (:57.96) and the 200 freestyle (1:52.60)in a Centennial League dual meet on Feb. 4.
Arapahoe 262, Cherokee Trail 83 - Mirelle Griffin captured the 200 freestyle (1:57.51) and the 500 freestyle (5:15.69) in a Feb. 4 dual meet.
