Construction on the Cottonwood Drive Widening Project began Oct. 5. Two additional lanes, one in each direction, will be built along Cottonwood Drive between Cottonwood Way and Jordan Road. The project is scheduled to finish by 2022.
The centerpiece of the $11 million project is the construction of a second bridge next to the existing one. The project includes $8 million in funding from Parker’s urban renewal authority, Partnering for Parker’s Progress (P3).
The current Cottonwood Bridge, built in the 1980s, will be renovated as well. Construction on the new bridge over Cherry Creek begins this winter. Roadway widening is expected to begin next spring and continue throughout 2021, according to the town’s website, ParkerOnline.org.
While the area undergoes construction, the Cottonwood Trailhead for the Cherry Creek Trail and associated parking lot is expected to be closed Oct. 15 through the end of 2021. That area will be used for staging by the contractors, the town’s website says. The Cottonwood Trailhead will be reconstructed and have additional parking spots installed.
A new traffic signal will be added at the intersection of Cottonwood Drive and Apache Plume Drive.
