During a March 1 meeting of Parker Town Council, the governing body selected who will take over the position of mayor if the elected person, Jeff Toborg, were to become unable to fulfill his duties.

Councilmember John Diak was chosen by the town council as the mayor pro tem and will serve as mayor if Toborg is absent. Councilmember Cheryl Poage was confirmed as the acting mayor, a position that requires her to step in as mayor if both Diak and Toborg are absent. 

These appointments, which are required by law, were discussed and decided during a Feb. 26 town council retreat, said Jim Maloney, the town’s attorney, during the meeting. 

Diak, who was first elected to the town council in 2012 and reelected in 2016, began his third term after being reelected again in 2020. He is the longest serving town council member. Poage was elected in 2018 and briefly ran for mayor in 2020 before stepping back and supporting Toborg for the position.

The town will have a special election April 20 to fill two vacancies on the council.
