Two people were injured in a head-on collision in Franktown
after an Elizabeth woman turned left into the path of an oncoming
vehicle.
State troopers responded to the site of the crash around 1:15
p.m. Aug. 15 at the intersection of Colorado 86 and Parker Road,
where witnesses report the incident happened so quickly, they
didn’t see what happened.
Victoria Hare, 31, was among the drivers in the crash and said
she was traveling south on Parker Road, waiting at the intersection
to turn left onto eastbound Colorado 86, toward Elizabeth. Hare
recently moved to Elizabeth and had six passengers in a 2006 GMC
Envoy sports utility vehicle, including two small children.
The view of oncoming northbound traffic on Parker Road was
blocked by a large vehicle waiting to turn left onto westbound
Colo. 86, she said. When she attempted to turn left, her vehicle
was struck head-on by a northbound 2001 silver two-door Volkswagon
sedan driven by Holly Debrock, 45, of Black Forest.
Upon impact, Debrock’s vehicle spun and struck a white Chevy
Astro van waiting for a green light on eastbound Colo. 86.
Emergency responders had to extract Debrock and her male passenger
from the Volkswagon. The man was an unidentified 50-year-old, also
from Black Forest, who was not properly restrained at the moment of
impact, said Trooper David Hall. The male passenger’s head collided
with the windshield during the crash and both passenger and driver
were transported to Littleton Adventist for injuries sustained,
Hall said.
Witness Alicia Sukle of Parker did not see exactly what caused
the crash. Sukle was among drivers heading west on Colo. 86,
waiting to turn north onto Parker Road.
“It happened so fast,” Sukle said. “I think both were going
fairly fast and the silver car got hit twice. I don’t know who had
the light.”
Traffic was closed at the intersection for about an hour while
crash investigators worked the scene and responders cleaned up
after the crash. The Volkswagon sustained severe damage, the SUV
moderate to severe damage, the van moderate damage, said Trooper
Nate Reid. The SUV carried two toddler passengers and the white van
one. All children were appropriately restrained, Hall said.
